Devin Harris on Nets future
Quote:
In a one-on-one interview during a break in the camp, Harris said he believes the Bucks will benefit from Jefferson’s presence next season.
Jefferson, a seven-year pro, was acquired by the Bucks in exchange for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons.
“I hate to see him go; I was probably closest with him on the team last year,” Harris said. “But we knew there was a good chance he had played his last game in New Jersey.
“We were trying to create space on our salary cap. Obviously Yi is a great talent; he’s young. And Bobby can definitely help us.
“It’s no secret the Bucks shoot a lot of jump shots, and Richard is a slasher. I think he’s better in the up-tempo (game). He can play in the halfcourt, but he’s at his best when he’s in the open floor.”
Harris admitted he faced a big adjustment when he arrived in New Jersey in February. He had signed a five-year contract extension with Dallas in September 2007 and thought he might be there for the long term.
“Things happen,” Harris said. “The way things were working in the West, you figure (Dallas) was not the type of team to just sit around. They felt they needed to do things.
“I think moving to New Jersey is kind of the next step in my career, being the point guard of the future for the team.”
As it stands now, Harris and Vince Carter will form the starting backcourt for the Nets, with the 7-foot Yi at power forward. Josh Boone and first-round pick Brook Lopez will be at center, with Simmons, Eduardo Najera and Jarvis Hayes competing at small forward.
But what does Harris make of the possibility “King James” would want to play in Brooklyn someday?
“It’s a couple years down the road,” Harris said. “You see the way we’re structuring certain deals we’re doing, we’re definitely trying to clear space for him.
“I know he’s been talking about coming to Brooklyn and everything. If it works out, great. But we have a couple years before we get there, and we’ve got to try to be competitive. I think that’s what he feels in Cleveland; he doesn’t have enough around him.
“We definitely want to be competitive, so if he does come, he can fit right in and feel like he has a supporting cast.”

Great words... liked what he had to say.
He's definitely our main point guard of the future.
