Construction workers discovered 74 bone fragments over the weekend at a vacant skyscraper across from the World Trade Center site. I cant believe its been 5 years and there are still human remains being found. Kinda hard to believe I think.

Recent months workers found four more human body parts in the building, after finding 10 bone fragments on the rooftop last fall. In the most recent discovery, workers retrieved 82 samples, 74 of which proved to be human remains. More than 40 percent of the 2,749 people killed at the trade center have not been identified.
Not that we need a reminder but this shouldnt sit well with the people that are testifying at the Moussaoui Trial. Personally I think he deserves lethal injection! Anyone disagree?

I was listening to the news and I heard about a robber that breaks into apartments while pple are at work. Someone got arrested who was suspected of robbing a woman and her toddler in an elevator. Thought I would let everyone know whats goin on especially to those of us living in the big apple. Lots of creeps out there!!

NEW YORK In the event of a strike by thousands of doormen, porters and other apartment workers in New York City, building residents might have to open their own doors, hail their own taxis, sort their own mail and, heaven help us, possibly take their own trash downstairs. Are they ready?

Doormen, porters and other workers will walk off the job unless there's a deal. Both sides are reportedly far apart in their negotiations, and New York City building residents are told to be prepared for a strike.

Without a door man people are not going to be as safe. These door men know everyones names that live in the building as well as some common guests. Its not like there is any other form of security. What will they do instead of door men?

In case of a strike, residents in many buildings are being issued new building ID cards so they can still move freely in and out of their buildings. So at least thats some form of security that should make people feel safer.

The first destroyed skyscraper to be rebuilt since Sept. 11 opened Tuesday, with few tenants but state-of-the-art features that developers say will be part of all the new office towers to rise at the World Trade Center site.

Developer Larry Silverstein officially opened the 52-story 7 World Trade Center for business by unveiling a bright red sculpture called "Balloon Flower'' outside his building and hosting a concert featuring Lou Reed and Suzanne Vega.

``We've come a very long way,'' said Silverstein, who built the first 7 World Trade nearly 20 years ago and has struggled to rebuild destroyed office space at the 16-acre site for more than four years. ``What you're looking at today is just the beginning.''

The building at 7 World Trade Center was the third to collapse on Sept. 11, 2001, after the twin towers. Like the trade center, it is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and leased by Silverstein.

The shimmering glass tower was redesigned by David Childs, the same architect who designed the 1,776-foot Freedom Tower, intended as the symbolic replacement to the trade center. Silverstein, in an elaborate renegotiation of his 99-year lease to the towers, agreed last month to shift control of the Freedom Tower and another building to the Port Authority, while retaining control of three other buildings at ground zero.

Including 7, the trade center site lost well over 10 million square feet of office space on Sept. 11. But new tenants haven't been clamoring to return. Silverstein has rented less than a fifth of 7 World Trade's 1.7 million square feet. He moved in his development company's offices this week, while three architects who are designing the towers planned for ground zero will set up shop on another floor.

Ameriprise Financial Inc., a spinoff of American Express, and the New York Academy of Sciences plan to move in by fall. A Chinese developer, Beijing Vantone Real Estate Co. Ltd., signed a tentative agreement to rent the top five floors. Officials said Tuesday's opening is a sign of downtown's resurgence.

``It's going to be filled and it's going to be filled soon,'' said Kenneth Ringler, the Port Authority's executive director.

Following recommendations to make high-rises safer and sturdier after the terrorist attacks, the skyscraper adheres to ``a set of standards unique to any high-rise office building in America,'' Silverstein said.

The building is narrower and lets in more sunlight than its original version. An artist installed a glass screen in the lobby with oversized, moving text that tells New York stories. It is the first commercial tower in New York to be certified as green because it uses less electricity and high-efficiency cooling and heating systems. And it has adopted newer safety standards, with wider stairwells and 2-foot-thick concrete walls.

MTA Considers Subway Cams to Catch Vandals

The city's commuters could land on TV if transit officials approve a proposal to install security cameras on subway cars.

Officials are in preliminary talks on the idea, said Michael Lombardi, New York City Transit's senior vice president for subways. It is unclear how much the closed-circuit cameras would cost, he said Monday.

The cameras would be used in part to catch graffiti vandals, said Andrew Albert, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority board member.

``It could probably stop other crime as well, and perhaps they could catch a terror suspect,'' he said.

Other anti-vandalism efforts discussed Monday at an MTA committee meeting included a $25 million proposal to replace most subway windows, many of which have been permanently scarred by knives and etching acid.

The new windows, to be placed in about 5,000 cars, would have a polyester coating that could be peeled off and replaced when damaged by graffiti. The coating is already in use in the newest of the system's 6,200 cars.

Money for the project will be included in a proposed 2007 budget that the authority will consider this year, said Lombardi.

I am willing to bet people say that this is going to be an invasion of privacy. I cant wait to here a remark that stupid and silly. There should be camers on the NYC subways trains. It would help out police officials and definitly eventually help in the lowering of crime rates.

I heard they are also putting up cameras in central park. Im assuming in the trees and I think its a great idea. And I definitly think it will cut down crime and make people weary as to wahts going on.
