Early last month CNN came out with their list of the top 10 buildings to see in NYC.
Obviously the Empire State Building was there, thats a given! I was surprised to see the Prada New York Store in Soho on the list. I didnt find anything special about it. And if anyone has any input on the Conde Nast Building please share that info as I have never been, Thanks! Last edited by CityGuy : 10-22-2008 at 01:34 PM. |

These are great buildings that I think a visitor should check out. They are in no particular order...
Chrysler Building - the needle sharp stainless steel spire is illuminated at night. Visitors are restricted to admiring the interior and the African marble onyx lights in the lobby. Customs House - This is simply one of the most sumptuous beaux arts buildings ever built. Marine murals festoon the interior. An uncredited sketch of Greta Garbo, at a dockside press conference, is in the rotunda. The engrossing Museum of the America Indian, inside the Customs House, belongs to the Smithsonian Institution. City Hall - This French Renaissance marble monster - now a working landmark - has been home to the citys government since 1812. Equitable Building - The bulk of this 41 story building, which opened just before WWI, changed the shape of Manhattan - and world architecture - forever. Its size created such an uproar that four years after it was built, New York enacted the nations first zoning laws requiring building setbacks. Flatiron Building - Flatiron building photo - the first picture. Back in 1902 people were terrified that all 22 stories of the worlds first skyscraper would topple. Still standing it remains one of the most photographed buildings in NYC. Grand Central Terminal - The interior of this beaux arts train terminal is breathtaking, especially its ceiling star map! Puck Builing - Home to the turn of the century humor magazine, this stunning redbrick building features two gold-leaf statues of the portly Puck. Its a popular spot for wedding receptions and film shoots (see TV show Will and Grace) United Nations - This international territory was designed by a group of architects from around the world. Lobby exhibitions are free but while your here take a stroll through the nearby gardens and sculpture park which feature prime river views. |
