Well after three games played so far this season under new coach Mangini, I got to say the Jets are looking good. They are very diciplined and mentally sharp. Thats all thanks to the new head coach. He keeps his players focused by making sure they concentrate on what they get paid to do on sunday. That includes keeping his players away from the media frenzy, in which new yorkers love gossip about.
Chad Pennington is also a huge surprise. I really did not think he would be able to perform well enough after trying to recover from shoulder surgery. But he looks really good and very sharp, and I always knew he was a mentally sharp football player. I def have a different outlook on the season....I believe that the New York football Jets are good enough to be playoff bound. As long as the key players stay healthy this should be an interesting run towards post season. No one including myself thought they would be any good after losing the best player on your team, Curtis Martin, and a two time rotator cuff surgery on your best quaterback, Chad Pennington. But with the aquisition of Kevin Barlow and a STUNNING performance from rookie Leon Washington, the NY Jets may have a great running game indeed. As for defense, right now the MVP is safety Kerry Rhodes with three forced fumbles in 2 weeks, in which one was turned into a touchdown by Victor Hobson. The defense has played pretty well on the overall scheme of things. The do need to improve on stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback on third and longs. big...i agree with you. I definitley think Kerry Rhodes is a great safety. He has made big plays on defense, especially last week when he forced 2 fumbles, on which one was a touchdown. Even Bobby Hamilton said in the Star Ledger that he has played with great safetys over the past few years and Kerry Rhodes has was it takes to be one of the best in the NFL. I sure hope Mr. Hamilton is right.
As for offense, chad pennington and Lav. Coles def have a special chemistry. Jericho Cotchery is also working his way into the mix. But with the loss of Curtis Martin, I didnt think we would be doing as well as we are running the football. But Kevin Barlow has been a work horse carrying the football. And Leon Washington is amazing!! He is very quick and has all the talent in the world to be a great running back. So my outlook has too also changed on the season. I believe the New York Jets are def top 8 in the AFC, meaning they should find themselves in the playoffs!!! |

So I watched the New York Jets game on Sunday versus the Colts, and I must say that was the most exciting football game so far this season. As for the New York Jets, they came close and had they gone for that field goal on 4th and 2 from the 2 yard line, this game should of been an overtime thriller. The New York Jets look very very good though! Chad Pennington has been superb and even got a heads up from Peyton Manning (whom is the best quartberack in the NFL - in my opinion) after Chad was able to get the defense to call a timeout. The running game picked up after a lousy first quarter, led by 2 touchdowns by Kevin Barlow, an outstanding game by Cedric Houston, and another amazing performance by Leon Washington.
I want to say the defense played a very solid game BUT...they let Peyton Manning score 2 touchdowns with no timeouts at the end of the 4th quarter. So defensivly the defense needs to improve their pass rush and they need to stop the run. This is a must if the New York Jets want to win close games with elite teams. |

Well the New York Jets really got it handed to them this past week at Jacksonville. Obviously the worst game of the season for the NY Jets so far. These games happen but lets see how they respond next week against a much weeker Miami Dolphins team. The NY Jets should take this game as a learning lesson to be more focused and prepared.

The New York Jets hosted the Detroit Lions today and finally played like a professional team with good time management. In my opinion Leon Washington has great potential to be a leading running back for the Jets on par with C. Martin. GO JETS.

Eric Mangini remained noncommittal yesterday on whether Curtis Martin will return to practice next week - if ever. The coach said he will meet next week with Martin and the team doctors to "gauge where he is. ... We'll just see how it is next week."
The team has a bye next week, the ideal time for Martin to test his surgically repaired knee in practice, but there's a chance it may never get that far. Martin, 33, is thought to be considering retirement. If he calls it quits, an announcement could be made as early as next week. Martin, on the physically-unable-to-perform list, was eligible to start practicing last week, but it was pushed back a minimum of two weeks. Martin said the extra time will "help us make a wiser decision." By rule, the Jets have a three-week window that began last week; if Martin doesn't start practicing by Nov. 8, he's ineligible for the remainder of the season. Mangini said Martin's future will be a medical decision, initially, because "player safety is the most important thing. Once that decision is made, it will be completely football and Curtis knows we're going to play the best players. ... He understands that completely." OOH, THAT SNELL: Leon Washington's 129-yard rushing day was the third-best in team history for a rookie. In 1964, Matt Snell rushed for 180 and 164 yards in back-to-back games. Washington (346 yards) is the third-leading rookie rusher in the league, behind the Patriots' Laurence Maroney (361) and the Colts' Joseph Addai (354). But Maroney and Addai have played one less game than Washington. Not surprisingly, Washington was named the team's offensive player of the week. DT Dewayne Robertson (one sack) and S Kerry Rhodes (two tackles) received the honor for defense and special teams, respectively. Mangini praised Robertson for showing improvement at nose tackle, a new position for him. |

So this past week the NY Jets were defeated by the Cleveland Browns marking the first time the new york Jets lost to a team they technically shouldnt have. Either way the NY Jets fought there way back to a last second attempted throw to Chris Baker who seemed to have caught the football and was decked hard out of bounds by a defending Browns player. The refs said he could never have landed in bounds and hence the play was not reviewed but each time I wath the play I cringe thinking maybe he could have landed in bounds. Either way the loss is a loss and I believe the new york jets are better then that and it should never come down to a last second attempt againt a 1 and 5 team. The NY Jets have a bye week and need to focus in on beating the under quality teams. So we will have to wait a while till the next Jets game but lets hope and pray they will not lose to a below average team.

Yes the new york jets can ill afford to lose to below average teams. every game is gonna be a difficult one as the season progresses but they need to come out of this bye week with a win and of course nonetheless its gonna have to be against division rival New England.

The new york jets just had a bye week and should be ready to go against New England this weekend. I know new england is coming off a loss to Indianapolis Colts but the Jets need to try and win this game. This game is huge and holds a lot of implications as to who may win this division and seal a playoff victory. This will be a HUGE game!!!
