NEW YORK (AP) The Long Island Rail Road has narrowed the platform gaps at eight more stations in Nassau County and Queens. The railroad says it raised and shifted tracks at stops at Locust Manor, Laurelton, Greenvale, Glen Head, Sea Cliff, Glen Cove, Albertson and Roslyn.

State investigators are prepared to release a report on the death of 18-year-old Natalie Smead, who fell through a gap at Woodside station on August 5th. The teen-ager from Northfield, Minnesota crawled under the concrete platform and was struck by a train on the other side.

LIRR, state and federal officials began examining the gap issue after Smead's death.

Smead's family has filed a five (M) million dollar lawsuit against the railroad last month.

L-I-R-R spokeswoman Susan McGowan says the railroad is analyzing data for other stations to determine the best way to narrow the gaps between the platforms and the trains.

To be honest I never even noticed how big the gaps were at the Roslyn station which was one of the mentioned stations that they narrowed the gap. But if people can fall through the gap then this is a job well done by the LIRR to protect their commuters.
