So what does everyone think? Tiki Barber has said he has other ambitions and will retire after this season. Curtis Martin who is definitley out for the season has not committed to retirement but if you read between the lines it does not look like he will ever be wearing that number 28 uniform again. Although both with very different circumstances, will Tiki Barber and Curtis Martin be out of the NFL at the start of next year??

Wow I just read the CBS Sportsline about Curtis Martins press conference and look at what Tiki Barber of the New York Giants said about his friend and opposing confernece hometown running back.
"I have great respect for Curtis," Barber said. "My definition of greatness is doing things consistently great. And he did it for a lot of years. He has always been very respectful to the league and the game. It's a great method for people to want to emulate." |

I feel really bad for Curtis Martin because I am willing to bet my life savings he would love to be on that football field playing. But I agree with the media, its that time when you just can no longer control your own destiny. Although Curtis has not officially retired, I do not see how he would possibly want to risk coming back and crippling his knee. It hurts because he is a class act and a true professional. In my opinion he is clearly one of the greatest running backs in all of football and his 4th all time rushing statistics prove that. His running style was that of no fear and speed. His vision in finding open field to run was similar to that of Barry Sanders. I just wish that he had at least a super bowl ring to show for his efforts. Either way I am positivly sure that football fans throughout especially in New York will remember Curtis Martin as a stand up and warm hearted guy, who gave it his all on the football field. I am still hopeful that Curtis will return.

As far as Ticki Barber is concerned I respect his wishes to leave the game at the end of the season. I cant really say whether its true or not. Either way if he walks away from the game of football, my assumption would be that he has just lost interest in the game and as he himself has stated would like to persue another field that has interest to him.

So was there any latest news on Curtis Martin? Will he be joining the team at meetings and coaching the very impressive Leon Washington. I hope that curtis martin comes back next season, only because I know he doesnt want to go out like that. But maybe this will give the new york jets some motivation to try and i say TRY to win the super bowl.
As for Tiki Barber this should be his year especially if he wants to retire. He has a solid football team around him. Im hoping he comes back and the retirement thing is just a fantasy or day dream. Either way both Tiki Barber and Curtis Martin are respectable guys who deserve to have their wishes repected. They are class act individuals and both will one day be hall of famers! Watch this is the year the NY Jets and NY Giants face off in a super bowl. That would be insane given the running back situations!!! |

Haha maybe a few weeks ago that was a feasible thing to say, but with key injuries to the NY Giants, I dont think that will happen. As far as the New York Jets they are inconsistent but have been playing well of late. Manginious is making that happen by having his team mentally prepared every week. He makes his team watch boxing matches to help with the mental sharpness???

They were both very good running backs and should both be in the hall of fame sometime soon. It was nice to see both new york running backs retire on the same day.

I just wanted people to know that I am not so sure I have as much respect for Tiki Barber as I do for Curtis Martin. At least Curtis is very supportive of his teammates even after he announced he was done. Tiki, on the other hand had to make some judgemental comments about Eli Manning's ability to lead the New York Giants. Even if that is true, as a reporter now you shouldnt bash your former teammate and head coach. Its something, I believe, that should have been discussed behind closed doors. You dont have to make your issues public. I have lost some respect for Tiki in this regard being that I feel he needs attention and had to make outlandish comments about his team and teammates. I find that foolish of him!
