A proposal to phase out atery-clogging artificial trans fats from the foods on the menus of new york city restaurants could help spur the nations restaurant chains to move more quickly to change their oils.
If NYC - the nations largest restaurant market, with more then 20,000 eateries - goes ahead with a city health department regulation that would require the removal of virtually all the trans fat from most of the items they offer, it would be the most significant step yet in the health community's effort to eliminate it from the nations diet. No US city has gotten as far as new york city with a potential trans-fat ban. If it is approved by the nyc board of health, restaurants will have 18 months to comply. |
