Default Max Brenner: Hershy Park comes to Union Square

Max Brenner - "the bald man with the chocolate" is their slogan. Let me not try to let my bias show since I am a "heeb" and this is an Israeli company. Let it be noted that this post is written with complete neutrality, since I'm too baked to think about mid east politics.

What a pair of cahones on the owner/company/investors. A very large space in one of Manhattan's busiest parts of town - Union Sqaure south -across from the Loews - next to the Cosi's. A new concept (this aint a TGIF where figures are more projectable), so this is a risk.

Back on topic. What is Max Brenner? The front portion of the store is a Chocolate shop. Mmmm that smell. Everyone loves chocolate.

The majority of the place is a restaurant. Yes there is a restaurant tucked behind that Chocolate shop.

The menu is kind of odd. Not the standard menu. A dishes have nothing to do with Chocolate to my surprise. Too much pork for 1. Mmmm pork and cholocate, urggggg (drooling on my pantalones). I'm not gonna give the run down. Check out menupages and see if its for you. FYI menupages rocks.

My food was decent. I wanted a chicken sandwich. The closest match was a Chicken sandwich with roasted peppers, potatoes (inside the sandwich), cheese, lettuce and some mayo. A bit unstandard but it was close to what my brain told me to get.

The potatoes tasted interesting. But I decided to remove them, half way in. It was pretty good. Not so cheap, but hey - I gotta pay part of their rent, so no worries.

They also have an extensive drink menu. Milkshakes, and the sort. I ordered a PB Choco drink. Was pretty good. Tasted sorta like a melted Reeses cup. I like it. I dont know if I can shell out another $7 for a medium size drink (remember, I'm a jew), but just wanted to try it for kicks sake. The straws were metal. My buddy was a little worried about germs from it. He drank it straight from the glass.

Point 2: Anyone who has been to Hershey Park in the last few decades will be eerily reminded of similarities. Machines stirin paint that looks like chocolate. Pipes around surrounding the joint giving it a nice illusion.

Hey, check it out. It's unlike anything you've seen in this city.
