So far this summer of '07 most people I know that usually head to the Hamptons have been ditching that further commute for a closer one to the up and coming location of Fire Island. I am wondering what is going to happen in the competitiveness between the two locations, especially in an already tough housing market.

i dont think fire island will be the NEXT Hamptons... fire island is very nice though and def a good time and great escape if you dont wanna travel as far. The hamptons is more ritzy and very expensive because of the name. They are both different it depends upon the individual and where and what you wanna do.
