Default NY Giants

Is Tiki Barber going to retire? I hear a lot of news about him mulling over retirement after this season and getting a job as a football analyst on tv. Anyone else here these rumors?

Michael Jennings... Why he'll make the team??
He returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown against the Ravens in the preseason opener and has made a few nice catches in the team's three games.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The New York Giants never considered that losing to “Big Brother” Sunday night might not mean Eli’s older sibling Peyton. Instead, the NFL assigned officiating crew ended not one, but two Giants’ fourth quarter come-from-behind drives - handing the Giants a 26-21 opening night loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Giants were lucky to find themselves down only 16-7 at halftime. The Colts offense got off to its usual fast start by converting 9 of 11 third down opportunities in the first half, but could only put three Adam Vinatieri field goals and a 2-yard touchdown pass from Peyton to tight end Dallas Clark on the scoreboard. The Giants defense missed intercepting Peyton twice, and after Giants’ DT Fred Robbins sacked Peyton in the games’ opening minutes, he was forced to leave the game with a quad strain.

Big Blue’s offense finally got started late in the second quarter, when brother Eli connected on a 34-yard touchdown pass of his own thanks to Plaxico Burress’ acrobatic catch in the right corner of the end zone. The Giants started the second half with a seven-minute drive, capped by a 15-yard Eli strike to Jeremy Shockey that narrowed the gap to 16-14.

Down 23-21, the Giants started comeback number one from their own ten with five minutes left to play. Amani Toomer caught an Eli Manning pass for six yards, which was followed by a two-yard run by Barber. On third down, Eli hit a streaking Tim Carter down the right sideline for an apparent 19-yard gain. But instead of first and ten from their 37, the Giants learned that Carter was called for offensive pass interference after Colts’ defensive back Nick Harper fell down while trying to cover Carter. Video replays were unable to confirm the infraction, and on the next play Harper intercepted Manning’s wobbly pass intended for Toomer.

After seven plays, Vinatieri added his fourth field goal of the night to put the Colts up 26-21. The Giants started comeback number two from their own 23, with 1:06 left to play. After a 12-yard pass to Shockey and a 16-yard pass to Toomer, Eli spiked the ball near midfield. Yellow flags transformed the clock stopping play into an illegal snap infraction by center Shaun O’Hara. Once again, video replays were unable to confirm the infraction, and after the mandatory clock run off, the Giants tried one more desperate pass to Burress as time ran out. “I was standing right there,” said coach Tom Coughlin of the call. “It’s very difficult for me to think that that kind of play is a foul.”

Michael Strahan added: “We had some things that happened not under player control, which college-type people do, not professionals.” But he quickly added, “We beat ourselves a lot of ways…we didn’t get them (the Colts) off the field.”

The Giants and the 78,622 fans inside of Giants Stadium Sunday night still have to be frustrated that the inaugural Manning Bowl was decided by “Big Brother”, and not Eli's big brother.

The New York Giants do not want to think about life without their all-time leading rusher. But they may have to sooner than expected.

Tiki Barber
Running Back
New York Giants

Tiki Barber confirmed on Wednesday during a conference call with the media that he is "leaning toward" retiring after this season.

"I've been considering [retirement] for a few years now," Barber said. "It comes to a point where your body just doesn't want to take it anymore, you see other opportunities out there. I'm excited about the rest of my life as well as I am about this football season. So we'll see what happens.

"I don't think there are any definites in life. It's too early in the year to say it for sure. But I'm leaning toward it, for sure."

The 31-year-old Barber is in his 10th season with the Giants. He was named to the Pro Bowl each of the last two years and leads the NFL with 533 rushing yards this season. Last Sunday, Barber rushed for a season-high 185 yards in a 27-14 win at Atlanta.

Barber is signed through the 2008 season. If he retires at the end of this season, Barber would give up $8.3 million in salary.

Major networks have expressed interest in Barber's broadcasting talents. Barber already spends Tuesday mornings as a co-host of "Fox and Friends," a general news program on Fox News.

im currently watching the new york giants monday night football game and i they are up 26 to 15. The defense has 6 sacks in the game and three interceptions. Drew Bledsoe was benched for Romo, who has just thrown his second interception. The second interception for Romo went to defensive lineman Fred Robbins of the new york giants. That interception pretty much sealed the win for the new york giants whose defense is amazing. With the 6 sacks, 3 interceptions, and a safety the defensive side of the new york giants football team is showing signs of dominance.

on the offensive side of the football, eli manning is playing very solid and of course ticki barber is always going to play hard. The new york giants are showing positive signs as they make the midway point of their season.

Well now there was just an interception returned for a touchdown, with a little over two minutes left the new york giants have this one in the bag. The Cowboys just scored a touchdown but the onside kick was just recovered by the NY Giants and now the clock will run out and the final score will be New York Giants 36 to 22.

Oh and btw the defense had 6 sacks, 4 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and a safety. With the win the New York Giants are first place in the division as well. Congrats to those touch blue new york giants.

Don't be surprised if the Giants trade up in the first round to try to snare Peterson. With Tiki Barber retired, the Giants need a primary back. Barber's backup, Brandon Jacobs, is a huge, change-of-pace back, but he can't be the primary guy.
