Is owning a car in new york city a smart decision. The only reason I would want to buy a car is for weekend escapes, would probably never use it during the week. Any recommendations?? thanks

I would rent a car if your only going to go away for an occasional trip. If you plan on leaving nyc every single weekend then you may want to consider buying a pre-owned car as having it in new york will definitely cause some damage. Go as cheap as possible too.

I completely agree Lauren! Cars in New York are not meant to last a very long time. NYC has some really bad pot holes that can damage a car in an instant. The cab drivers are nuts and I would personally never want the responsibility of parking a luxury car anywhere in this city.

Just to further convince you not to get a car in NYC last week I went to a conference at the Hilton Hotel and parked at an ICON parking garage only to find out the next day my car was dented on the passenger side above the tire. Luckily its only a minor dent but still the car is not even a year old. Really ruined my day when I found this out the next morning.
