Default Cab Fare

I haven't ridden in a cab in a really long time, what's the rate these days?

Cab rides start at $2.50 and goes up .40/mile. It all varies depending There are a lot of other surcharges as well.

that is absolutely stupid. The post that is.

Why put up a post on cab fare. Cabs cost what they cost.
when youre drunk and dont feel like waiting 45 minutes for a train in the middle of the night, whatever you spend is well worth it.
Nothing beats door to door service. It's not just a money issue, it's quality of life.
Sure i take the subway to work and back, but sometimes i just need to get somewhere quickly and dont feel like walking to and from the subway station.
Also, yes it cost 2.50 to get into a cab, the charges are 1 dollar during rush hours and 1 dollar late at night. Doesnt that beat the surcharge of walking and dealing with a crowded subway car?

I agree with everything Matteo just said. In all fairness to the out of towners who are curious at least here they know what to expect. Door to door service - nothing beats that.

I heard that if you go between different sections of manhattan, cabbies will charge extra. Is this true?? I live in manhattan and I dont even know because I live and die by commuting with the subway.
