The Beatrice Inn on 285 West 12th street is one of the most exclusive bars in all of manhattan. At least it appears that way when you see two beautiful European women getting denied at the door.
When I first showed up there, my first thought was where is the bar? Then at last the man at the door gave me the ok to head down the allied steps. I felt as if I was walking into my grandparents basement in Brooklyn. When you walk in you see a spacious lounge with couches and candle lit circular tables. Mind you the cielings are extremely low that even a person 5'4 (lets say) can throw there hands up and palm the cieling. It gives off the illusion that everyone is much taller. Quit a genious philosophy. Off to the right when you walk in is another smaller room with couches and a tiny little window where one can request a drink. The oil paintings gives the entire place a unique vibe. I ordered a Vodka and Sprite with some lemon juice and the price was $10. I guess thats the norm for a west village bar. The bar itself is very well lit with white tiled floors and walls. When you walk all the way in the back there is a room with mirrors and red couches that suround the room. All your trendy locals lounge there with what seems like not a care in the world. The place is never too crowded and usually has just the right amount of people. Its spacious and the small environment makes it feel even that more friendlier. After mid night when everyone has their good buzz going, the dancing takes over. I had a great time there! Oh and the people there are generally, corny as it may sound, really hip and beautiful! |

Beatrice Inn - How do you open the hippest place in town? One approach is to not open it at all and run it as a quasi-private club instead. That’s what Paul Sevigny did when he reclaimed this former speakeasy and Italian restaurant for the art and fashion elite. If you’re hoping to enter his warrenlike space of oil paintings, antique furniture, and nautical mirrors, you’re going to need to make sure you’re on the guest list first—and under seven feet tall. Past the tiny den with its candle-filled fireplace, and a main room with deep-set couches, tie-wearing barkeeps in the white-tiled barroom serve up classic cocktails akin to those at co-owner Matthew Abramcyk's other bar, Employees Only. Steps ascend to a back room lined by mirrors and banquettes. Here a surprisingly mainstream mix—U2? Tom Petty? "My Sharona"?—gets the hipsters dancing instead of posing.

Seem like the beatrice inn is facing some criticism for their loud noise and dangerous habits of smoking indoors. The one time I was able to get into this joint the back room where all the dancing was going on, was nothing but hipsters lighting one cig after another filling the room with smoke. The owner clearly doesnt care either! Now it seems as if the beatrice inn will face its wrath of destruction??
