Its funny how there are certain pple that you just know are tourists. Whether its the obvious signs of looking at maps and asking questions, or the complexion on someones face that just easily gives it away. Does anyone else know how you can tell who is and who is not a tourist?

Yea everything you said and the fact that when you walk in times square people dont stop taking pictures whereas us locals take it for granted that we have areas such as times square in out 'backyard'

I cant really tell all the time - I dont pay too much attention. But Times square is the one place where I personally feel like everyone is a tourist including myself whenever im around that part.

Whats wrong with looking like a tourist, nyc is about individuality. Only in NYC can you get away with any look possible.

No one ever mentioned when you walk by people with accents. Another obvious sign that your most likely a tourist. Although im sure there are tons of foriegners living in manhattan. There is certain lingo that is acquired after living in nyc for a while, so thats another sign if you ever get into a deep conversation w someone that they are definitly from out of town.

This is a funny thread. I can never tell even though I have been here for 6 years. But thats whats great about being here. No one knows and I dont think anyone cares about who is and who is not a tourist in New York City.

I know i just joined today and have only been living in nyc for 2 months but i hope i dont look like the typical tourist. I have been able to tell the difference between the obvious tourists from 'far away locals'.

I felt like a tourist this past weekend when i decided out of pure boredom to take a tour of my home town on the hop on hop off bus. The guide was hilarious but I felt I knew more then him. It was a great way to kill a sunday afternoon!

it should be easy to spot tourists in manhattan ... they generally have a camera around their neck and are walking around with the family. the map also is a dead giveaway.
