Was Wayne Gretzky considered a top player while he was with the NY Rangers?

he was no where near as dominate a player with the Rangers then when he was with the Oilers or Kings ... i think while with the Rangers he was way past his prime

yea he never really amounted to much as a NY Ranger but I guess it was nice to be playing for the home team that happens to play in the most electrifying arena and every great athlete deserves that
