Nets beat Detroit in Allen Iverson debut
Devin Harris was simply SICK as he scored a career high 38 points in beating the Detroit Pistons who were undefeated.
Quote:
"I was just worried about the win," said Harris, who fired in 19 of his points in the third quarter, when he also collected 13 of his career-best 20 points from the foul line. "Points really didn't matter."
Actually, they do. Just call it a silly NBA rule that the team with the most points wins. Think of them as electoral votes.
"We desperately needed this win for our confidence, to protect home court and especially with a team like Detroit you want to be as aggressive as possible," said Harris, who snapped out a season-opening slump after shooting 30.3 percent from the floor in the first three games.
The crowd came out 17,767 strong, many of them to see Iverson, who scored 24 points in his Pistons debut. He didn't disappoint, but it was Harris who stole the show. Iverson gave the crowd what they wanted, Harris gave the Nets (2-2) what they needed.
"Devin was phenomenal," said Vince Carter, who scored 18 points before fouling out. "He controlled the game for us, he hit shots, got to the free throw line. He did a lot of things, and he also had a tough task guarding Iverson."
Don't forget, he did it in the late third quarter and the entire fourth limping on that left ankle, the same ankle he injured last season, missing 14 games. Harris went for X-rays, which were negative.
"It's a little sore right now," said Harris, who nevertheless, must be considered questionable for tonight's game at Indiana.
