Default Nets win season opener on the road

Nets beat the Washington Wizards last night starting off the season 1-0. Vince Carter was voted team captain and led the Nets in scoring with 21 points.

Vince Carter scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and Yi Jianlian had 17 while flaunting the smooth shooting stroke that enamored the Nets enough to trade for him in the off-season.

"It's a process that's going to have to happen," Carter said. "And I think this is a great start for us, to get a win, for our young guys to play pretty well and to feel good about themselves. We want to hit the ground running."

They did, with the help of Jarvis Hayes, whose signing made few headlines this summer but who will serve as a key reserve.

Hayes, who played four seasons with Washington, returned to haunt his former teammates with 14 points. His presence elicited boos from the crowd for comments he made after leaving the team last season for the Detroit Pistons.

Hayes's fadeaway jumper with 8 minutes 4 seconds remaining gave the Nets a 76-75 lead, an edge they did not relinquish.

"They were big shots," Hayes said. "They were at a crucial point in the game and I hit them."
I see the Chinaman Yi had 17 points ... i missed the game last night but does anyone know how he played ??

VC, Hayes and Yi were very impressive. The Nets whole team looked very good. Of course the Wizards aren't exactly the Celtics but a good start. VC got everyone involved, scored quite a bit and made several highlight real plays while Yi shot very well and showed off his athleticism. Hayes also shot lights out. I think this team will at the very least make a run at the playoffs.

Once Yi beefs up a little bit, he's going to be a beast!

This gave me some optimism for the season. VC is going to prove his critics wrong. He's got a big chip on his shoulder.

The Nets held the Washington Wizards to under 40% from the field and only 23.8% from three point range.

Vince Carter after being named team captain took control in the fourth quater by making some clutch baskets to seal the win. VC IS DRIVING TO THE BASKET, DUNKING ON PEOPLE AND EVEN MAKING CIRCUS SHOTS AGAIN! The passion is back for Captain Carter.

Devin Harris is a stud and is doing what he is supposed to do, the boy can play ball. His handles have improved, and he is unstopable when he penetrates to the basket after the pick and roll. His jumper has improved too.

Yi Jilian is a great spot up shooter, the boy is deadly from the perimeter but tends to be rather soft when is comes to grabbing rebounds.

Josh Boone is a good energy guy who's the second coming of Jason Collins but he can put up points and he is athletic.

Jarvis Hayes was impressive too, contributing with fourteen points, that is just unheard of.

Brook Lopez is a beast, I compare him to a very young but raw Tim Duncan. He can be just as good.
If Lopez turns out to be a Tim Duncanish type player and the Nets land Lebron James in 2 years ... no way in hell do the Nets NOT win a championship!

im surprised Vince Carter is up to the challenge of helping a young team? usually a veteran at his age would want to win a championship to at least solidify that part of his career ...

bc he doesnt seem upset it must mean something good is going to happen to this team hmmm Lebron James????
