For the past few seasons, the Rangers had a special player in Jaromir Jagr but lacked an effective physical presence to screen goaltenders, occupy defensemen and control the patch of ice in front of the net on the power play.
Forget Sean Avery, who was more pest than pillar.
So far this season, Aaron Voros is filling the bill.
Anchored in front of Martin Brodeur last night, the 6-3 winger who signed as a free agent from Minnesota this summer made an impact from start to finish.
Voros was whistled for interfering with Brodeur 1:39 into the game but later deflected two shots from defensemen past the Devils goaltender, a long one from Dan Girardi in the second period and another from Paul Mara early in the third, to lift the Rangers to a 4-1 victory at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers improved to 5-0 and matched their best regular-season start (1983).
"He's a great goaltender, but if you can't see it, you can't stop it," said Voros, who assisted on Brandon Dubinsky's opening goal at 13:30 of the first as well and has seven points in the past four games.

The Rangers look to be really serious contenders in the East. Think about this ... the NJ Devils knocked off the Penguins in Pittsburgh (last years easter conference champs) and then get spanked by the Rangers 4-1. I think this years Rangers team is def the team to beat in the East.
They have so many talented forwards and a very young core group of skilled players that are going to make a huge difference down the road. With Lundquist in net I think most teams are going to find it difficult to beat this years Rangers, of course unless your Detroit.
