Default Jets take Gholston at # 6

Position: DE/OLB
Height/weight: 6-3/266
School: Ohio State
Pros: Freakishly fast and strong. Blew away the league with his speed and strength testing at the scouting combine. . . . Recorded a school-record 14 sacks last season, including one against Michigan OT Jake Long (possible No. 1 overall pick), who yielded only two in his career . . . Still hasn't maxed out in terms of potential. Didn't start playing football until the 10th grade.
Cons: Disappeared in several games against lesser competition. . . . Does he have a passion for the game? That, Gholston said, was the question teams most frequently asked in predraft interviews.

Being the Jets and Pats play each other twice a season, should the Jets take the Giants route and improve on the defensive line?

Gholston is a very strong and very quick DE. Rumor has it he disappeared for a few games in college ???

Yea so why draft him ... Darren McFadden is starting to grow on me he has spent time in NYC this past week. My gut feeling is he hopes to be with the NY Jets

Right after the Jets selected him he got interviewed by Deion Sanders. Before him most guys like Ryan or Chris Long just threw out some prepared sentence how they will work hard and this and that. All talk that you say before teams pick you. But Gholston said straight from the heart that he loved to be picked in the city he will play in and that there's no better thing.

The Deion asked him if what Jets fans can expect from him and he didn't say anything boring or what everyone is used to hear. He said he "hopes for a Super Bowl in the next few years." Now some people might say he's foolish to say that but he was sincere and he talked about a team goal, not an individual goal and I can't see anything negative about that.

yea im starting to think the jets took Gholston out of fear the patriots were going to take him....

Gholston I believe had 14 sacks last year and I hear he takes plays off....imagine if he played 100% he could of doubled his sack total to 28

Vernon Gholston, DE/LB Ohio State, 6th overall

He's a pass-rushing specialist who the JetsNew York Jets will use mostly as a stand-up outside LB. Gholston had 221/2 career sacks, ranking fifth in school history. Gholston last season had a sack against Michigan T Jake Long, the No. 1 overall pick in yesterday's draft. It was one of only two sacks Long gave up in his career.

Should be an interesting first game against the Dolphins and Jets on OPENING DAY!! Hopefully Gholston gets his second and third and maybe 4th sack against Long.

By the way thought I would share the info that Gholston will wear number 56 ...

some people are actually crazy enough to say he will be the next lawerence taylor!!

Just cause he is wearing the #56 i would expect him to be the next LT.
